Senate District 15 - Rockfall mitigation along Tripler Army Medical Center property line and uphill of Moanalua Valley residences
July 24, 2007
Moanalua Valley residents are among those having experienced devastation as boulders, rocks, and mud slid down the hillsides during heavy rainy seasons. Concerned residents ignited the call to protect themselves and their community.
In November 2005, the Army paid for a rockfall mitigation project to airlift large boulders from the hillside and placed netting to prevent loose rocks from tumbling down the hill.
The Corps of Engineers Honolulu District has awarded a new contract to remove more boulders along the Tripler property line that is uphill of the Moanalua Valley residences on Ala Aolani Street and Ala Mahina Place.
Prometheus Construction has a 90 calendar day performance period and the boulder removal is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2007, barring any extenuating weather delays.
The Corps of Engineers resident office staff and Prometheus Construction will directly coordinate schedules, access, and safety precautions with the affected homeowners.
