Helping Hawaii Schools
An editorial in the August 20, 2009 Honolulu Advertiser states that "In dire fiscal climates, relying on private donations to supplement public education becomes more critical…" It notes that "Hawaii's demonstration of its generosity—through SOS and other efforts—is even more encouraging, in itself and for our children's future."
The editorial recognized the CBEX-initiated Department of Education project—helphawaiischools.com that allows individuals and businesses to contribute volunteer time, goods and/or money online, directly to schools based on what they request. In three years, the project has grown from a pilot project of four schools to currently more than 60 schools.
