Spouses to Teachers Program
Spouses to Teachers is a US Department of Defense (DoD) program that helps military spouses find teaching jobs either at DoD schools or at local American schools. It provides guidance on state-specific requirements for teaching certification and vouchers to reimburse costs associated with certification. The program originated in the continental USA, then was launched in Europe in October 2006, and became available throughout the US Pacific Command since February 2007. Program manager, Tylee Roller notes: "Having a portable and professional career with immense job satisfaction couldn't be more of a perfect fit for the military spouse traveling the world in support of her military spouse and country."
Spouses to Teacher can be a tremendous help to Hawaii. With our recurring teacher shortage, the program would offer much needed help to our public schools.
