Reforming No Child Left Behind Act
On March 16, the Honolulu Advertiser issued an editorial, "No Child should be by state choice, not law." The editorial notes: "When more than 50 House and Senate GOP members band together to introduce legislation that could drastically undermine what President Bush has long considered a success, you know something must be wrong."
Senator Sakamoto introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 57, which requests the U.S. Congress to amend the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The resolution notes that the No Child Act is seriously flawed. It has resulted in a narrowed focus on the "basics," created a punitive environment, and stifled educational innovation. The resolution also lists thirteen changes that will address the No Child Act's flaws.
