Teacher Housing Crisis
On July11, the Honolulu Advertiser reported that many teacher cottages were in serious disrepair.1

The teacher housing crisis reflects the need to make our government more responsive and effective. In 2005, because HDCH failed repeatedly to provide teachers with adequate housing, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 639, which calls for the transfer of responsibility to DOE. Adequate teacher housing is a must. We need to maintain and expand ways of helping Hawaii teachers.
